Quick tips for fat bikes!
FAT BIKES
Since the arrival of our Big cat ® Fat Cat - Electric Fat Bikes, we have been receiving a great number of emails and photos from our customers about how happy they are about riding these fat bikes around various parts of the united states, from dirt trails, beaches, snow or down the street, we are just as excited as you all are to be a part of this growing trend.
fat Bikes have been gaining so much traction (Pun intended) over the past couple of years and it seems that the trend will not cease anytime soon. So after gathering a few helpful tips from some reliable sources, here are some quick tips to keep in mind when you're out and about in your new Big Cat ® Fat Cat, or any Fat bike for that matter.
THE BASICS:
- Helmet, if you do not have one... Buy one. While riding a Fat Bike you'll feel more opt to ride on some rough terrain. Even the most experienced riders have accidents, do yourself a favor and wear a helmet for your safety.
- Dress Appropriately, If you're out during the winter time be sure to wear layers, keep a pack of foot and hand warmers just in case. wear gloves and an extra pair of socks. Carry extra items in case you get wet or need to stop and recover if you're taking long trips. WEAR REFLECTIVE GEAR DURING NIGHT TIME RIDING.
- Tools, be sure to carry tire tubes, air pump and proper tools needed for quick maintenance on your bike, the last thing you want is to be stranded on some trails, on the beach or in the snow with no tools for a quick fix. Be sure to have flashlights on the bicycle so pedestrians and vehicles can see you
- Laws, always obey your state and locals laws when riding on public roads, parks, and trails
- Extreme riding, always be sure to consult the manufacturer of your product to make sure your bicycle is designed to handle extreme riding conditions, such as jumps or stunts.
TIPS FOR RIDING ON SAND/ BEACHES:
- Normally Fat Bikes have a tire width of 3-5 inches
- Try to maintain a tire pressure of about 6-10 psi
- Wear goggles, if your Fat Bike does not have fenders, you'll want to avoid getting sand in your eyes.
- Never ride in crowded areas
- DO NOT TAKE YOUR E-BIKE FOR A SWIM.... stay away from the water, although the Big Cat ® Fat Cat has waterproof components, we highly recommend to avoid getting your electric bike unit wet. This will prevent any electrical issues and avoid oxidation on some of your components
- Wear Sunglasses, if you don't have goggles, wear sunglasses, this will also improve your visibility and decrease your chances of causing an accident.
TIPS FOR RIDING IN SNOW/ICE:
- Try to maintain a tire pressure of about 6-10 psi

- Use tire chains to increase your traction on ice
- reduce speed, if you go too fast you'll lose control
- never make sharp turns, making sharp turns can cause you to lose control on snow and ice, take your time and make slow, steady turns
TIPS FOR RIDING ON DIRT TRAILS:
- Extreme riding, always be sure to consult the manufacturer of your product to make sure your bicycle is designed to handle extreme riding conditions, such as jumps or stunts.
- Respect the wildlife around you, never do anything that will destroy the natural habitats of the animals that may live near the trails you're riding on
- Reduce speed and observe your surroundings, a lot of dirt bike trails are surrounded by trees, if you lose control, the last thing you want is a head-on collision with a tree.
- Wear goggles, if your Fat Bike does not have fenders, you'll want to avoid getting dirt in your eyes.
- wear reflective gear and use strobe or regular lights on your bike to warn other riders of your presence. At time dirt trails can be darker because of the trees blocking the sun.
